Round the Island Race
6-8 July 2018

The Round the Island Race is one of the world’s most famous yacht races.
It was first run in 1931 when there were just 25 yachts on the start line. Since then the popularity of the race has exploded with participants travelling from across the globe to take part in the race.
This iconic race starts at sunrise from the Squadron Line on 7 July 2018, racing west en route to the Needles. Clipper Events will race in our very own class, Clipper Yacht Class, for the Vaphio Cup. The Clipper Yacht class was created in 2009 after event organisers the Island Sailing Club donated the Vaphio Cup to Clipper Events for its class.
After crossing the historic Royal Yacht Squadron Line you will have a breath taking view of the rest of the fleet as they wait for their starts with the sun climbing in the sky behind them.
Out at the head of the fleet on the south of the island, there’s another picture perfect moment in store as you look back to The Needles and watch as hundreds of yachts hoist a kaleidoscopic range of multi-coloured spinnakers.
The yachts create a huge visual impact on the start line, providing a perfect branding platform and lasting impression on clients or employees on board. Whether you’re using the event to get close to customers, build teams or train leaders, competing in the Round the Island Race is an effective way of developing business relationships while enjoying an exhilarating and memorable day out of the office.
We offer a three-day campaign, with a full day of training and accommodation on board the yachts in Cowes before an early start for the race the following day.
After the race you will have time to enjoy the Race Village and the atmosphere in Cowes. Guests join the yachts for the Round the Island Race on the 6 July for a training day, with the race starting early on the 7 July. The weekend finishes back in Portsmouth Sunday 8th July around lunchtime with plenty of time to get home.
Clipper Events invites teams of novice and experienced sailors alike to join us in the 2017 Round the Island Race.
